In the end the one hour, five minute 7th inning was worth the wait to Red Sox fans. A 9-6 Friday night victory over the New York Yankees, expanding the lead in the AL East to five games.

This game had everything.

Rookie Rafael joined Babe Ruth (1915) and Ted Williams (1939) as the only three players 20-years-old or younger to have home runs i back-to-back games against the Yankees.

Sox starter Drew Pomeranz had to leave the game in the 4th inning with back spasms.

The Yankees scored four times in the top of the 7th to take a lead over the Sox.

The Red Sox used the remainder of that 1:05 hour period to score four of their own to regain the lead.

The key hit in the comeback - a pinch hit two-run single by Mitch Moreland.

The Sox added insurance in the 8th when Jackie Bradley Jr. had a two-run single off Aroldis Chapman.

And in the end, Addison Reed and Craig Kimbrel got the last eight outs. Reed got the win and Kimbrel got his 29th save.

The Sox are a season best 19 games over .500 at 70-61.

Game two of the series tonight with Chris Sale facing C.C.Sabathia.
