The top-seed Southern Aroostook Warriors needed overtime to overcome the No. 8 Wisdom Pioneers in Monday's quarterfinal game at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

92.9 The Ticket reports the game was tied at 28 at the end of regulation after the Pioneers took control at the end of the fourth quarter and held the Warriors in check.

But then, it was Sydney Brewer time. Brewer, one of four eight graders on the Southern Aroostook team, scored 9 of the Panthers 10 points in overtime, propelling them to a 38-32 win.

The Warriors (14-5) advance to the semifinals against Central Aroostook.

Brewer led the Warriors with 15 points. Freshman Katelyn Slauenwhite had 11 points and freshman Kassidy Mathers added 10.

Wisdom, playing in the tournament for the first time in 18 years, gave the top seed everything they could handle.

Center Rhylee Wright led the Pioneers with 17 points.

Southern Aroostook’s roster comprises four freshman and four eight graders. Wisdom has only seven players.
