Northern Maine will see its first significant snowfall in three weeks on Wednesday with up to 6 inches possible in some places before the snow changes over to rain.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from Millinocket to Madawaska until 10 p.m. with snowfall totals expected to range from 3 and 6 inches.

Here's the latest weather forecast for Aroostook County:

Snow developing Wednesday morning, mixing with or changing to freezing rain in the afternoon. Snow accumulation of 3 to 6 inches possible. Highs near 33°F

Wednesday night: Rain, sleet and freezing rain… changing to all rain as temperatures rise to the 40's overnight. Gusty winds picking up.

Thursday: A mix of sun and clouds... a few stray showers… Daytime temps settle into the mid 30's by the afternoon.

The last significant snowfall was on January 13th when the National Weather Service says about 6 inches was recorded at Caribou.
