Single Girl, Married Girl ‘Starlight’ [Exclusive Premiere]
NYC-based folk-pop six piece Single Girl, Married Girl are debuting their new song “Starlight” exclusively for readers of The Boot.
Bolstered by lead singer Chelsey Coy’s breathy and ethereal vocals, “Starlight” builds slowly, exploring the complicated reality of making art.
“The outside world doesn't seem to get you, and you have to come to terms with that,” the band tells The Boot of the frame of reference for "Starlight." “But even some stars in the sky don't get their due. They still shine."
Single Girl, Married Girl are currently comprised of Coy on vocals and banjo, drummer Oskar Haggdahl, backing vocalist Shannon Soderlund and bassist John Gray. The band was originally formed in Los Angeles and has gone through a number of lineup changes as Coy, the band’s founder, made the move to New York City in late 2013. Before she left the West Coast, though, Single Girl, Married Girl recorded an EP with Rilo Kiley’s Pierre de Reeder; that project was released in early 2014.
Single Girl, Married Girl will release their new album, Spark, on May 19; they'll celebrate with an album release party at New York City's Rockwood Music Hall on May 18. Visit SingleGirlMarriedGirl.com for details on the new album and to find out more about upcoming shows.
