Freshman Nick Silva was named the Rookie of the Week by the America East Conference on Tuesday morning.  Silva pitched in four games over the past week and recorded two saves, while also picking up a victory in contests versus Rhode Island and UMass Lowell.

The freshman allowed just three hits in his outings and struck out five players during the last week.  Silva sports an impressive 9.24 strikeout per nine innings mark and is second on the team with two saves.

Silva becomes the third Maine baseball player to earn a Rookie of the Week honor in the conference, following teammates Colin Ridley and Danny Casals.  Maine will face Colby College for an out of conference match-up on Wednesday afternoon.

The University of Maine softball team swept the weekly awards in the America East conference after picking up three wins over Hartford this past weekend.  Rachel Harvey was named the Player of the Week, Alyssa Derrick won the Rookie of the Week, and Erin Bogdanovich earned the Pitcher of the Week.

Harvey hit .474 and had eight RBIs, which included two home runs in the weekend sweep of the Hawks.  Derrick earned her second Rookie of the Week honor with a .412 batting average and hit her eighth home run of the season.  Bogdanovich picked up the Pitcher of the Week with a win and a save against Hartford while striking out 14 opposing batters.

Maine will close out the regular season at home against the UMBC Retrievers starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
