‘Shouldering’ the Burden of Getting Older
Let me just say right up front, GETTING OLD SUCKS!
Aches and pains seem to be multiplied. As in the case of my two shoulders. In 2017 I had a minor surgery on my right shoulder. The rotator cuff wasn't torn, but it was causing enough discomfort that it needed a surgical procedure called "decompression."
Wasn't quite as lucky with the left shoulder. This one was a full rotator cuff tear. I had surgery on that about a week ago and am still "best buds" with my sling. I slept (to use that term loosely) in my bed for the first time in over a week last night. Up until then, I had been sleeping upright in a chair in the living room. Not a recliner, but one of those big, overstuffed chairs.
People ask how it happened. Only thing I can think to tell them is the 4 times we've moved in the last 3 years. Twice in the past year.
So, pain has been fairly constant since surgery. More so, it seems, when I'm lying down. I feel like a bird who's had its wing clipped. And as the song by the group Mr. Mister goes, "So take these broken wings and learn to fly again."
That may take a while!
