Bernie Sanders says people who don't like the major party candidates for president should be looking at their programs and agenda instead of focusing on personalities.

The Vermont senator told supporters in Bangor that news coverage has turned the election into the "Super Bowl" or the "World Series" or "who said something dumb yesterday" instead of focusing on issues.

He said Democrat Hillary Clinton is the candidate who'll look out for middle class Mainers.

Sanders won Maine's Democratic presidential caucuses and he remains popular in the Pine Tree State, drawing several hundred supporters Thursday in a ballroom at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Sanders endorsed Clinton in July. He addressed topics including raising the minimum wage, reducing income inequality and making public college tuition free.
