Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign Kicks Off Soon

Many Aroostook County residents are in need as the holiday season approaches, won't you give a hand up and help them out?

I had a chance to sit down with Major Dave Wetzel of the Salvation Army in Houlton on Wednesday, about what the Salvation Army is going to be up to over the next few months.

Here's what he had to say.

The Salvation Army Red Kettles have been an American tradition since 1891, helping raise financial support for critical Salvation Army programs and services year round. Over the years, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the United States – providing toys for kids, coats for the homeless, food for the hungry and countless social service programs year-round.

Volunteers are still needed to help ring bells and raise money this holiday season throughout Aroostook County.The Red Kettle campaign will run from Friday, November 28th right through Wednesday, December 24th.

The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in London in 1865, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for more than 130 years in the United States. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a range of social services: providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, and opportunities for underprivileged children. 82 cents of every dollar The Salvation Army spends is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide.
