The showing includes clever artistic productions created by repurposing artwork found in local secondhand and antique shops; often interjecting  pop culture into fine art pieces.

The opening reception will be held on May 5, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, during the First Friday Downtown Art Walk.  Refreshments will be served and the event is free to the public.

“We are upcycling unwanted  art into something that is fun and maybe desirable,” said Hyrum Benson, UMPI assistant professor of art. “The ‘new’ art will contain elements of the original but will be changed in some way."

Benson explained, "The art club got together a few months ago and wanted to have a show that involved not just the art club but also other artists.   We wanted to do some- thing fun that involved not just UMPI students, but local artists too. So we came up with this idea of taking unwanted  art that was made by someone else and adding our own touches to it.”

For the First Fridays, we'll be open from 7:30am until 8:30pm rather than closing at 3:30pm. We'll serve our usual menu for that time. Also, we have a new local artist, Lynn Cote, hanging new art work in the cafe.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will also be hosting an opening reception in the Pullen Gallery for Monica Quist as she presents her Senior Show on Friday,  May 5 from 6 – 8 p.m. Students  in the BA and BFA program work year-long to develop a body of work which will be on display in a solo exhibition in the Pullen Gallery. Quist will present her thesis in a gallery talk, given at 6:30 p.m. Her work will be on display from May 4 - 13, 2017. This event is free and open to the public.
