Heavy rainfall in central and southern New Brunswick kept RCMP members busy overnight with numerous weather related incidents including one death, one rescue and several motor vehicle crashes.

A 51-year-old Berwick man died after a retaining wall collapsed on him while he was hooking up his sump pump at his residence. He passed away at the scene as a result of his injuries, according to police.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., six duck hunters were rescued from Grand Lake after their boat started to sink. They made it to a small island where they were rescued, said police.

Police also said, RCMP responded to approximately 10 motor vehicle crashes due to either hydroplaning or collapsed roads as well as numerous calls of water over roadways.

The RCMP and the Emergency Measures Organization continues to remind the public to be alert and respect any temporary signage. Motorists should also avoid driving over water-covered roads.
