ORIGINAL REPORT:  RCMP say they have surrounded a residence in Mayfield, New Brunswick, near St. Stephen where an armed man has barricaded himself inside his home.

West District RCMP members were called to the home on Route 735 at approximately 3:15 p.m. Sunday after a report of a shot fired, according to Constable Isabelle Beaulieu. The shot was allegedly fired when the local fire department responded to a car fire at the residence. No one was injured.

Late Sunday evening, Beaulieu said more shots were fired towards police, with one bullet striking the RCMP's Tactical Armoured Vehicle. Again, no one was injured.

The suspect, a 34-year-old man, is believed to be alone in the home. The RCMP have set up a perimeter in the area and closed Route 735 from Barter Settlement to Pomeroy Ridge while the incident is ongoing. Local residents have been advised of the situation and asked to stay in their homes.
