West District RCMP are investigating after a man was seriously injured in an apparent accidental shooting in Geary late Saturday afternoon.

Police received a call shortly after 5:15 p.m. that a 39-year-old Moncton man had been shot near Speedway 660. He was taken to hospital and remains in serious but stable condition. The man was in a portable camper trailer at the time of the incident.

The investigation revealed that the man sustained a single gunshot wound while he was in his trailer. Witnesses said that some people were target practicing in a gravel pit near where the trailer was parked. Police believe the victim was not intentionally targeted.

Police do believe the person who fired the shot fled the area after the shooting and officers were interviewing witnesses.
