Complaints of thefts from vehicles continue to be made to Codiac Regional RCMP. During a 10-day period from August 15 to 24 police responded to 20 separate incidents.

Eighteen complaints were thefts from unlocked vehicles, while two of the complaints were incidents were car windows had been smashed to gain entry into the vehicle, according to RCMP. The complaints were from various locations across Greater Moncton.

The individuals committing these offences are doing so under the cover of darkness, typically when most people are asleep,” says Staff Sergeant Eric Larose. “We are asking residents and motorists in Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview to call police whenever they see suspicious activity in residential areas because this increases our chances of locating those who may be responsible.”

Codiac RCMP is asking residents to report any theft from vehicles, even if they feel the stolen items had little or no value, as police may be able to gain additional information to aid investigations into these thefts.

Police said, in most cases, those who are responsible are taking what can be easily seen so it is important to remove all items from inside the vehicle and take them indoors or lock them in the trunk. Stolen items include such things as purses, laptop computers, vehicle documents, sunglasses, wallets and loose change.

If you see any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, day or night, contact Codiac RCMP at 506-857-2400.
