This is the third house the Council has renovated under their HOMEBuyer program.  The goal of this program is to renovate a property that needs a facelift and renovations, put contractors to work during the slower winter months, and keep distressed properties from falling off the tax rolls by making them attractive and livable again.

Philip Christensen, President of the Fort Fairfield Quality of Place Council, led the extensive renovation project and was assisted closely by members of the Council and local contractors.  The home, which was donated to the Quality of Place Council by Aroostook Savings and Loan, was in serious need of remodeling and repairs.

“When we first looked at this home back in the fall, it was difficult to determine where to start, but we could see this home was in relatively good shape,” explained Christensen.  “After clearing out the remaining debris, we started working to replace the heat and hot water systems.  At the same time, electricians helped rewire the property and our lead contractor went to work tearing out old paneling and replacing sheet rock and ceilings so the home would feel more modern and spacious.  Once we got started, the momentum started to build."

Crews not only replaced the heat and hot water systems, but completely renovated the bathroom, kitchen, living room and the two bedrooms on the second floor.  The entry way was rebuilt with a new set of steps on the exterior, ingeniously designed to allow a vehicle to access the attached garage, while making it easier to move large items in and out when needed.  Ceilings, doors, carpeting and a tub were among the many items repaired or replaced.  New appliances, including a stove, refrigerator, washer and dryer will soon be installed helping make the home move-in ready.  It is now listed for sale at a very reasonable $58,500.

Quality of Place Council Member, Steve Towle, will assist the Council by showing the property to prospective buyers.  “There has already been considerable interest, and we’ve only just recently hung the sign out front,” said Towle.  “There are few properties on the market at this price point that are this modern and this clean with so many of the major expenses taken care of in advance of the sale.”
