Professors Strike at the University of New Brunswick
Professors and teaching staff are officially on strike at the University of New Brunswick.
The Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers spent much of the weekend negotiating with university administration, but did not reach an agreement by the strike deadline. Negotiations between the union and administration have been on-going since March.
The union was seeking improved pay and working conditions to similar sized universities.
UNB President Eddy Campbell said if classes don't resume within four weeks, there is a danger of students losing their term. He said it may require back-to-work legislation from the provincial government to end the impasse.
The campus will remain open but all classes, except those taught online by contract academics, have been suspended.
