State Police said 42-year-old Johnathan Browning was driving a GMC pickup north on the Chapman Road around 6:45 p.m. when the vehicle drifted off the left side of the road. This caused the truck to skid out of control and cross back over the roadway, according to Sgt. Chad Fuller.

The pickup went off the right side of the road, struck a telephone pole, and rolled onto its side. Browning was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

Maine State Trooper Shawn Whalen investigated the fatal crash.  Presque Isle Police Department, Aroostook County Sheriff's Office, Presque Isle Fire Department, Crown Ambulance, and a utility crew from Emera Maine also responded Thursday evening.

State Police said speed and not wearing a seat belt are considered to be factors in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
