Jacob Turner was traveling south on U.S. Route 1 in Connor shortly before 3:30 p.m., when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel, according to Sgt. Chad Fuller of the Maine State Police.

Turner’s 2000 Buick LeSabre drifted off the right side of the roadway and struck an unoccupied vehicle that was parked in a driveway in a residential area, Fuller said. The 2013 Honda CRV, belonging to Ruth Collins of Presque Isle, spun around and flipped up onto its side in the driveway.

Turner’s car continued on and struck a utility pole at the end of the driveway. The impact caused the utility pole to snap off and fall to the ground, pulling down live electrical lines. The car then crossed the roadway and went off the left side of the road where it came to rest in the ditch on the edge of a field.

Turner was transported by Caribou Ambulance to Cary Medical Center with minor injuries, Sgt. Fuller said.

State Trooper Adam Stoutamyer responded to the accident. The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Forest Service, Caribou Fire & Ambulance and Emera Maine were also on the scene.
