The Sargent Center is located at the intersection of Chapman Street and Riverside Drive and replaces the nearly 80-year-old William V. Haskell Community Center, which is being torn down.

During Saturday's grand opening, face-painting for children will be offered in the lobby by Leah Rodriguez of Wintergreen Arts. The Donor Wall at the center was created by local artists Heather Harvell and Brian Farley.

The Presque Isle Police Department’s Skywatch Booth will be outside allowing the public to catch a slighter higher birds’ eye view of the new center.

The Presque Isle High School Band will kick off with a performance at 10:00 am outside. Introductions and a formal ribbon cutting will take place at 10:30 am. The festivities will then move indoors, with activities in each of the rooms, every hour on the hour.

The Teen Room, which features Wi-Fi connections and charging outlets, will have a basketball hoop game and a ping pong table. There are also big screen TVs and gaming systems.

Once the facility is open for regular use, the teen room will be open Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., Fridays from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on the week-ends from 12 noon until 5 p.m.

For the grand opening, the Senior Room will have three hourly offerings. From 11 a.m. until 12 noon, TAMC’s Healthy Aging will offer healthy recipes and nutritional smoothies. At 12 noon, Seniors Achieving Greater Education (SAGE) will offer games, adult coloring, and a short workshop on cell phone camera use.

For the 1 o’clock hour, Leisure Village will provide Bingo for Fun! Prizes for the Bingo winners have been provided by the Presque Isle Downtown Revitalization Committee. During the grand opening, there will also be a series of photographs of the construction process shown in the projection screen.

Once the facility is on its regular schedule, the senior room will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. with various programs for seniors.

The Multi-Purpose Room will feature a Storyboard for children by Aroostook County Action Program from Noon until 1 p.mm and interactive 19th Century Children’s Games from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., put on by Presque Isle Historical Society.

Once the facility opens for regular business on Monday, October 31, a wide variety of activities for every age will be offered in this room including workout classes for toddlers, kids, teens, and adults.

The fall schedule for the gymnasium includes open gym, over-30 basketball, Little Wildcats Hoops, 6th-8th grade open gym, men’s hoop league, 3rd – 5th grade open gym, adult pickleball, adult volleyball, and women’s hoops. The walking track will be open every day (Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and week-ends from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
