A single-vehicle accident in Presque Isle Sunday afternoon sent two people to the hospital. Presque Isle police responded to the crash around 4:20 on the Parkhurst Siding Road not far from the Caribou line.

According to the Presque Isle Police Department, 39-year-old Jason Nardone of Woodland was traveling north in a 1972 Chevy Malibu when he lost control and went off the road. The car struck a utility pole, snapping it in half.

Nardone was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was rushed to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle with multiple injuries and later flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

A passenger, 35-year-old Moises Ortiz of Steuben, was taken to TAMC with non- life threatening injuries.   The vehicle was a total loss.

The Parkhurst Siding road was shut down for about 3 hours while officers investigated the crash and the utility pole was replaced.
