Presque Isle ACAP Center Receives Nearly $100K Grant

Aroostook County Action Program has received a $96,425 grant from Maine Next Gen to support the next phase of capital improvements at ACAP Family Services Center in Presque Isle.

The grant money will be used to repair or replace the sprinkler system, alarm system, playground fence, playground and parking lot pavement and add heat pumps at the Park Street center.  These additional improvements and energy efficient upgrades will help ensure that the center remains safe and accessible. Work will begin as soon as possible.

ACAP Family Services provides Head Start, Early Head Start, Child Care, Supplemental Food for Women, Infant and Children (WIC), oral health clinics and other family services.

“We are excited that Maine Next Gen has agreed to partner with us on this phase of our project,” explains Sue Powers, Senior Manager of Family Services. “It has been rewarding for ACAP staff and clients, and the community as a whole, to see the former Gouldville School continue to be used to serve the educational needs of children. In addition, it has been important that as we make the necessary upgrades, we keep the integrity and character of this historic building intact.”

Maine Next Gen is a granting organization supporting education, health enhancement, and basic human needs. For the past 13 years, the foundation has awarded grants to nursing homes, community organizations, health support organizations, schools, hospice programs, and social change organizations.
