President & CEO of TAMC, Sylvia Getman, to Pursue New Job in New York

M. Michelle Hood, FACHE, president and CEO of EMHS announces that Sylvia Getman, president and CEO of TAMC and senior vice president of EMHS, will depart EMHS in June.

Getman has accepted a position as president and CEO for Adirondack Health in upstate New York. She has been with TAMC since August of 2010.

While this represents a loss for EMHS,” commented Hood, “we are happy for the opportunity this position will provide for her to move closer to family. I have enjoyed working with Sylvia for the past six years and will miss her passion and advocacy for rural healthcare, as-well-as her uncanny ability to translate complex language and situations so they are easier to understand. She has served The Aroostook Medical Center region with distinction.”

In her role, Getman is known for her commitment to staff, patient safety, and improving the overall patient experience. Her dedication led to the redesign of the emergency department to improve patient flow and enhance comfort for patients and their families, as well as community efforts to increase influenza vaccination rates. She is also credited for helping to secure a $2 million gift to establish an endowment for cancer patients and support the construction of a new state-of-the-art cancer facility.

Chairman of the TAMC Board of Trustees, Steve St. Pierre, shared, “Sylvia quickly became an integral part of our community here in northern Maine. During her time with us, she developed a very strong leadership team, consisting of seasoned healthcare professionals, providers, and support staff, that are all working together to bring the highest quality healthcare services to the region. Her accomplishments are many, and were always centered on bringing the best, most positive outcomes to the patients we serve. We will miss Sylvia, and extend our warm wishes to her and her family, as they embark on an exciting new venture.”

Getman said while she is happy to be moving closer to family, it is difficult to leave a remarkable organization during such dynamic times. “My time with EMHS has been the most rewarding of my career and I have learned so much from my EMHS colleagues, the TAMC board, the entire TAMC team, and especially from Michelle Hood. As I have said on many occasions – Michelle is a visionary leader and EMHS and the communities it serves are fortunate to have her at the helm. I have also been blessed to have worked with an engaged and dedicated staff, medical staff, and Board of Trustees who truly live our mission of service to our patients and in whose hands the organization will continue to grow and prosper.”

Hood said a search for a new EMHS Senior Vice President/TAMC President will be launched immediately.
