Three men have been arrested in connection with two separate seizures of illegal cigarettes in western New Brunswick this week.

On Tuesday, around 2 p.m., West District RCMP and the RCMP Roving Traffic Unit stopped a vehicle during a check stop on Highway 2 in Waterville, near the Hartland exit. Sgt. J.P. MacDougall said a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 60,000 contraband cigarettes.

The driver, a 72-year-old man from Souris, P.E.I., was arrested and released pending a court date in September.
