State Police have arrested a suspect involved in a late night shooting in Belfast that left a woman dead and a man in critical condition.

Belfast Police and the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting at a home on Waldo Avenue around 11:00 Wednesday night.

44-year-old Todd Gilday of Belfast, who is reported to be an insurance agent in the coastal Maine area was identified as a suspect in the shooting.

State police say Gilday checked himself into PenBay Medical Center in Rockport early Thursday morning. Police from several agencies in the mid coast area responded to the hospital around 7 a.m.

Gilday was charged with murder and taken to the Waldo County Jail in Belfast. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Friday.

State Police have identified the murder victim as 55-year-old Lynn Arsenault of Garland.   Arsenault was visiting her son, 22-year-old Mathew Day, who was also shot and is being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

State police say one of Day’s friends was in the home at the time of the shootings and was not injured.  He called police to report the shootings, as did a neighbor..
