The Codiac Regional RCMP is investigating after a woman was allegedly assaulted Thursday night while walking in Moncton.

Constable Hans Ouellette said the incident happened around 9:50 p.m. near the intersection of Elmwood Drive and Highway 2. The woman was walking near the intersection when she was approached and grabbed by a man who was holding a weapon.

Police say the woman was forced to a nearby wooded area but managed to fight off her assailant. The suspect fled the scene.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his mid-twenties to early thirties, with dark hair. He was wearing a white hoodie.
