Rivers flooding their banks in our area have been a common occurrence this week, and in anticipation of rising water, Perth-Andover's Mayor is calling for a voluntary evacuation of the village.

Mayor Terry Ritchie has asked that Hotel Dieu, which is the village's hospital, be evacuated as well.

An anticipated rise in water and ice levels could be coming through the village as early as Wednesday evening. Ritchie says that there is a 40km flow of ice is building up above Grand Falls, and people can expect a 4 to 6 hour warning once that breaks before it flows through through the Perth-Andover area.

Perth-Andover residents are encouraged to vacate the area near the river and to move to higher ground in anticipation of potential flooding.

We'll have more information on the situation in Perth-Andover as it becomes available.
