Maine State Police say a Perham woman died Wednesday evening when her SUV went off the road in the Aroostook County town of Woodland.

Police and emergency medical services responded around 5 p.m. to a single vehicle accident on the Woodland Center Road. A passerby reported an SUV on its side with its operator unresponsive.

State Police say 72-year-old Judith Hewitt was the driver of the vehicle and she did not survive the crash. Investigators say it is unclear what caused Hewitt to lose control of her Chevy Blazer and drive into a snowbank.

The crash remains under investigation.

Trooper Patrick Pescitelli responded to the crash. Caribou Police, Caribou Fire Department and the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
