Over 1000 Bags of Heroin Seized in Holden; Hampden Man Charged

A Hampden man has been charged with selling heroin after more than a thousand bags of the drug were seized yesterday in Holden.

The charges come following an investigation by Holden Police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Investigators learned this week that 30 year old Peter James “PJ” Tardiff of Hampden was reportedly in possession of a significant amount of heroin, destined for resale in Holden and in Penobscot County. Further information revealed that Tardiff was wanted on an outstanding traffic-related arrest warrant out of York County.

Wednesday, Holden Police Sergeant Eduardo Benjamin, located Tardiff in Holden and took him into custody on that arrest warrant. In a search following the arrest, Sgt. Benjamin located more than 1000 bags of heroin and an assortment of prescription medication in Tardiff’s possession.  The street value of the heroin is over $15,000.

Tardiff was arrested and charged with Class “A” Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin). The charge was aggravated because Tardiff was staying at a location within 1000 feet of a Holden School. Tardiff was transported to the Penobscot County Jail where bail has been set on the drug trafficking charge at $15,000 cash. State Police also assisted in the investigation which is ongoing and more arrests are likely.
