State Police say speed and driver inexperience led to a crash Friday night in Oakfield that sent two teens to the hospital.

Police said the 16-year-old driver lost control of the 2009 Toyota on a bridge on the South Road and struck a guard rail on the opposite side of the road.

The teen did not have a driver's license but did possess a valid operator’s permit, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Clark. There was not a licensed driver in the car.

The driver and a 15-year-old passenger were taken by ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital. Police said the teens' injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Trooper Carmen Lilley issued the16-year-old driver a summons for operating without a license. A court date in Houlton District Court was set for October 27.
