Northern Maine Experiencing a Much Colder and Snowier December
Winter officially arrives this Saturday, but here in northern Maine the big chill is already on and snowfall has been about 9 inches above normal.
The National Weather Service reports the average temperature in Caribou so far this month of 14.9°F is 5.9 degrees below average for December. That ties with 1991 as the sixth coldest start to December in the past 30 years.
It's been the coldest and the snowiest December in Aroostook County since 2007, the Weather Service says. A total of 21.7 inches of snow has fallen at Caribou so far this month--9.1 inches above normal.
Forecasters say 3-5 inches of snow is on the way Friday and Friday night with more snow or mixed precipitation expected on Sunday.
