NorState Presents Check to Hope & Justice Project in Presque Isle

NorState Federal Credit Union has donated a year's worth of fees collected from their coin sorters in Madawaska and Presque Isle to the Hope & Justice Project.

In January of 2015, Executive Marketing Director, Denise Duperre, contacted the Hope and Justice Project’s executive director, Casey Faulkingham, and told Faulkingham that NorState’s 2015 income fee from the coin sorters would benefit the Project’s coffers.

With the help of all the people who came in to use the coin sorter machine at NorState FCU, and an access fee of 2% of coins sorted for members and 5% for non-members, the credit union and users of the coin sorter machines were able to raise $3,517.08 in spare change for the charity.

It is the mission of Hope and Justice Project to serve the needs of victims and survivors of domestic, dating, and sexual abuse and violence, and to work with the community to end this abuse in Aroostook County.

In fiscal year 2015, Hope and Justice Project served 995 individuals including more than 5,800 calls to their 24-hour hotline as well as 5,300 face-to-face contacts at their walk-in offices and shelters. Hope & Justice Project also provides more than 70 prevention and education presentations at schools and universities throughout the county.

The caring and giving spirit of our communities and for those willing to give up a few pennies on the dollar, for the coin sorter service, and NorState FCU, come together to say thank you for all of the services that the Hope and Justice Project afford the people of northern Maine.

Susan G. Whitehead, President and CEO of NorState Federal Credit Union with offices in Madawaska, Van Buren, Fort Kent, Ashland, Eagle Lake and Presque Isle, joined in the ceremony Monday presenting representatives of the Hope & Justice Project with a check.

“It is so wonderful that we are able to donate 100% of our service fees to recognize a local charity in this very special way.  NorState truly believes in the credit union cooperative philosophy of People Helping People,” said Whitehead.  “The Hope & Justice Project is making a difference in the lives of many county individuals.”
