Murder Suspect Spotted Monday in Maine Woods
A man who has been the subject of a month-long manhunt in connection with the slaying of his ex-girlfriend has been spotted in central Maine, police say.
Maine State Police, aided by the Warden Service and the Piscataquis Sheriff's Office have been searching Monday afternoon after a confirmed sighting of Robert Burton around the noon hour, according to Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland.
A camp owner in North Guilford told police he saw Burton on his property and then saw him run off to nearby Davis Pond, where he stole a canoe or kayak. The new search area is off Route 150, about five miles north of downtown Guilford, McCausland said.
The 38-year-old Burton was reported to be wearing camouflage clothing and carrying a black backpack. This is the first confirmed sighting of Burton since June 17, when he was spotted along a snowmobile trail in Guilford.
The search was still underway late in the day Monday.
