A man is facing criminal threatening charges after allegedly pulling a pellet gun on another motorist. Waterville police say it was a dangerous situation that could have ended much worse than it did. Police advise never giving in to your road rage.

According to Central Maine news, an unidentified driver became angry when a car driven by Joseph Ciampa, age 25 of Fairfield cut him off in traffic in Waterville. Police say the driver followed Ciampa's car until it finally stopped on Airport Road. The furious man approached the car and that's when Ciampa allegedly pointed the pellet gun out the window. CM reports Ciampa told the man he had a gun and could shoot him.

Police say Ciampa then drove farther down Airport Road and pulled into a parking lot. The man decided to follow and claims Ciampa got out and approached the car's window with his hand behind his back.

Police responded and, when Ciampa pulled his car in front of one officer's cruiser, the officer held him at gunpoint until back-up could arrive. A search of the vehicle turned up a pellet gun, matching the description of the one the victim reported seeing, four knives, and a stun gun.

Ciampa was arrested for two counts of criminal threatening and on a warrant for failing to pay a fine in Belfast District Court. Criminal Threatening is a Class C Felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey told Central Maine News that they would never advise anyone to pursue a car that's cut them off in traffic. You just never know how it's going to turn out.
