MMG Insurance Company was started in 1897 in Houlton, Maine with a group of citizens concerned about the cost and availability of insurance. At that time, fire was by far the number one threat to the local farming community. So in its early days, the Company focused solely on insuring its members against loss or damage to their properties due to fire and lightening strikes. Over its history, MMG has evolved to a regional company, entering the State of Vermont in 1981, New Hampshire in 1984, Pennsylvania in 2006 and Virginia at the end of 2011.

Today, the company writes in excess of $175 million in premiums in partnership with more than 180 Independent Agencies across 450 locations.
