Michael Tyler's debut single, "They Can't See," from his freshman album, 317, wasn't inspired by a woman in his life at the time as much as it was by a woman he wants to have in his life. Written by Tyler along with Jaron Boyer and Brandon Hood, the melodic single, not to mention its heartfelt music video, finds Tyler showing his tender side through romantic lines such as "She’s a head on my shoulder, hand in mine forever / She’s a take my breath, won’t forget, best night of my life but better / When I’m bone dry, she’s my summer rain / And I fall more in love with her every single day."

Below, Tyler recalls to The Boot he wrote "They Can't See," and shares how his past relationships influenced the song.

I wanted to write a love song that day; I wanted to write about my ideal woman. So, I took some past relationship experiences.

The point I wanted to get across in the song is -- I’m guilty of this, too: I look at -- just like women do nowadays, they see these models and then start feeling bad about themselves. As you get older, you realize that isn’t what it’s about. For me, it’s about things they can’t see. No matter if you’re gorgeous, I still have to talk to you for longer than 10 seconds. It’s the things they can’t see.

One person I dated always wanted -- didn’t matter how much money she had, what bills she had to pay -- she always wanted to give money to the guy on the corner. That’s something that really struck a chord with me. There was one that was always great to people she didn’t know -- loved everybody and herself, and had this deep respect for herself and a lot of other people. Those are the things that get me more than how somebody looked.

We wrote it in a day. I had the idea that I had been obsessing over for a week or so. When I finally brought it in, it was coming out.
