A 53-year-old man from Mexico received a sentence of one year and a day in prison for being an alien who entered the United States after having been removed and deported.

Presiliano Gonzalez Berruete was also sentenced to by one year of supervised release.

According to court records, Berruete arrived in Woodtsock, New Brunswick at the Canada Border Services Agency on February 12th, 2017. He was transported to the Houlton, Maine Port of Entry after being refused entry.

A United States Custom and Border Protection (CBP) officer determined that Berruete was a citizen of Mexico who had been removed from the United States in 2010 after being convicted of a federal felony drug trafficking offense. The defendant returned to the United States without inspection at a place that was not designated for entry.

The CBP and Department of Homeland Security investigated the case.
