To boost your luck, you could carry around a four-leaf clover, a horseshoe or a ladybug on your shoulder.

Lottery officials say the odds of your ticket being the winning Mega Millions ticket are 1 in 259 million.

So really, one way to double your chances of winning is to – wait for it – buy another ticket.  Now your chances are 2 in 259 million. Which is precisely the same as the odds that all the snow in your yard will melt by Tuesday.

The $400 million jackpot is the seventh largest ever in the U.S. The largest jackpot prize was $656 million in March 2012.

Mega Millions tickets can be purchased in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are about 1,200 lottery retailer outlets across Maine.
