MDI Girls 84 Presque Isle 60

The MDI Girl's Basketball Team let Eastern Maine Class B know that the road to the Eastern Maine Championship will have to go through The MDI Trojans as the Trojans soundly defeated Presque Isle 84 - 60 in Bar Harbor, Saturday afternoon, January 24th. MDI , Lawrence and Washburn are the lone unbeaten girl's teams in Eastern Maine. It's highly likely that MDI and Presque Isle will play again during the Eastern Maine High School Basketball Tourney at the Cross Insurance Center.

MDI took a 17-15 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Sierra Tapley had 6 points, Kelsey Shaw had 4 points,  Sarah Phelps had a 3-pointer for 3 points, and Darcy Kanu and Molly Carroll each had 2 points for the Trojans. For Presque Isle, Hannah Graham had 6 points, Krystal Kingsbury had 4 points, Emily Lagerstrom had a 3-pointer for 3 points and Emily Wheaton had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter, it was as if MDI put the game in a higher gear, as they outscored Presque Isle 26-11 to take a commanding 43-26 lead. Tapley had 8 points, including 2 3-pointers, one of which came at the buzzer after the ball went through her hands with 1.8 second and she chucked up the ball and swished the 3-pointer. Keely McConomy had 6 points, all in the paint, Phelps had 5 points, Shaw had 4 points, and Sara Norberg had a 3-pointer for 3 points. Graham had 4 points, Kingsbury had 4 points and Wheaton had a 3-pointer for 3 points for Presque Isle in the 2nd Quarter.

At the end of the 3rd Quarter, MDI led 66-40.Tapley had 8 points, Phelps had 7 points including a 3-pointer, Kanu had 4 points and Shaw had 4 points for the Trojans. Hannah Graham had 9 points for Presque Isle including a 3-pointer. Lagerstrom had a 3-pointer for 3 points while Kingsbury had 2 points for the Wildcats.

In the 4th Quarter, Kanu had 5 points, Shaw had 5 points, Phelps had 3 points, Carroll had 2 points, Julianna Cleaves had 2 points and Abbe Miller had 1 point for MDI. Taylor Williams had 2 3-pointers for 6 points, Wheaton had 5 points including a 3-pointer, Graham had 5 points, including a 3-pointer, and Olivia Hudson had 4 points including a 3-pointer.

MDI was led by Sierra Tapley with 22 points, Sarah Phelps had 18 points and Kelsey Shaw had 17 points. MDI was 5-13 from the free throw line.

Presque Isle was led by Hannah Graham, who had a game high 24 points, while Emily Wheaton and Krystal Kingsbury each had 10 points. The Wildcats were 1-2 from the free throw line.

The game was virtually foul free. MDI committed 6 fouls during the game, while Presque Isle committed 13 fouls.

MDI is now 15-0. Their remaining 3 games are at George Steven's Academy on Tuesday January 27th at 7 PM, at John Bapst (Cross Insurance Center) on Monday, February 2nd at 7 PM and then at home on Senior Night against Ellsworth on Wednesday, February 4th at 7 PM. All of those games will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.

Presque Isle is 13-2. Their remaining 3 games are against Houlton on Wendesday, January 28th at 7 PM at home, against John Bapst at the Cross Insurance Center on Saturday, January 31st at 5:30 PM and then home for Senior Night against Caribou on Wednesday, February 4th at 7 PM.
