Maine State Police have arrested a couple from Massachusetts on drug charges after their vehicle was stopped on I-95 in Benton on Friday.
According to Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, 53 grams of heroin, 10 grams of crack cocaine, a small quantity of marijuana, along with $1,395 in cash has been seized from 28-year-old driver Jennifer Rubins of Mashpee, and 40-year-old Donnell Pina of Marson Mills.
Police charged the couple with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and illegal importation of drugs; both have been sent to the Kennebec County Jail.
Trooper Jesse Duda stopped the couple's rental car for a traffic violation near mile marker 134 Friday afternoon. Trooper Duda asked for assistance from a drug sniffing dog, which indicated the presence of drugs.
