The 62-year-old victim made it to safety after being abducted from his home in Drummond, according to the RCMP. A warrant was issued Thursday for 43-year-old Gilbert Thériault of Drummond in connection with the incident.

The RCMP received a call on Monday around 4:30 p.m. that two men had forced a man from his home and locked him in the trunk of a car. Cst. Jullie Rogers-Marsh said the vehicle was driven about 10 kilometres and stopped on a dirt road where the two kidnappers fled, leaving the victim in the trunk.

The 62-year-old man was able to free himself and get help.  Police say he sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

The investigation led police to believe that one of the suspects was at a residence on Undine Road in Drummond. Police searched the residence on Tuesday and determined the suspect was not inside the home or anywhere else on the property.

Thériault has been charged with using a firearm to kidnap the victim, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, uttering a death threat, injuring the victim's dog and extortion. He is described as 5'6" and approximately 120 lbs. He has a tattoo of an eagle on his right bicep.

Anyone who recognizes Thériault is advised not to approach him and call 9-1-1.

The second suspect, a 37-year-old man originally from Nova Scotia, was located and arrested in Halifax on Thursday. Read more here.
