The Man Fatally Shot by Brewer’s Police Chief Has Been Identified

The Maine Attorney General's Office has released the name of a robbery suspect who was shot and killed by Brewer's Chief of Police.

Officials say Barry Chick Jr., 39, had allegedly run from police after an alleged incident at Brewer Walmart.

An Alleged Robbery Led to a Fatal Confrontation on Green Point Road

It all began when Chick allegedly attempted to rob the store on Walton Drive in Brewer. Police say store employees tried to prevent Chick from leaving the property, at which point he allegedly showed them a gun. The suspect then fled the scene.

Several law enforcement agencies rushed to Brewer to aid in the search for the suspect who was believed to be armed. Just after 10:30 Friday morning, Brewer Police Chief Jason Moffitt found the suspect on Green Point Road in Brewer, near the city's public works building.

Officials say Moffitt issued commands to Chick, which he allegedly did not follow. When Chick appeared to be reaching for a weapon, Moffitt shot and killed him, according to Brewer Police. The BDN reports there is no video footage of the incident.

Brewer's Police Chief is Currently On Administrative Leave

Chief Moffitt is on administrative leave, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Maine Attorney General's Office, which is standard procedure for any officer-involved shooting.
