According to CIMT-TV, Kevin Viel heard about the fire on his scanner at  4:45 a.m., and rushed to his father's home on the Power Road.   Firefighters had not yet arrived when Viel pulled into the driveway.  He said flames were coming through the windows.

Viel entered the house but the dense smoke made it impossible to see. The young man was able to locate his father and get him safely out of the building. Roland Viel was transported to the Edmundston Regional Hospital where he received treatment for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters from three Edmundston stations worked to bring the blaze under control. The fire marshal is investigating, and has not ruled out any possible cause at this time.
