A man who was killed in a workplace accident at the Twin Rivers Lumber Mill in Plaster Rock has been identified.

WorkSafeNB said the man–a heavy equipment operator–died from crushing injuries at around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday. Unifor Local 5080 has identified the victim as 52-year-old Ronald Warren of Plaster Rock, who was vice-president of the union. Warren had served as a volunteer firefighter for several years. He leaves behind a wife and two sons.

The RCMP responded to the Twin Rivers sawmill in Plaster Rock Wednesday afternoon. A stop-work order was issued and WorkSafeNB sent inspectors to the mill to conduct an investigation.

The funeral service for Warren will be held on Monday, September 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tobique Chapel in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick.
