RCMP say a 48-year-old man was killed Tuesday afternoon when his SUV collided head-on with a tractor trailer in Bouctouche, New Brunswick.

The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Highway 11 at exit 32B, according to a news release from Sgt. Patrick Tardif of the Richibucto Detachment.

The driver of the SUV, who is from from Petit-Rocher, N.B., died on impact, Tardif said. The driver of the transport truck was treated for minor injuries. The 18-wheeler was hauling a load of lumber.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene late Tuesday. So far, the cause of the crash has not been released. The highway was closed for several hours.

Sgt. Tardif said the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
