Man and Woman Arrested in Presque Isle Heroin Case

For the second time in two weeks, Maine Drug Enforcement Agents have seized a significant amount of heroin in central Aroostook County. 

Agents arrested a man and woman in Presque Isle on Wednesday and seized $5,000 worth of heroin, according to Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.  The home of 37-year-old Katie Ramus on St. John Street in Presque Isle was searched as a result of her being on probation for an unrelated charge, McCausland said.  Also at the house was 31-year-old Norberto Colon of Brockton, Massachusetts, who agents learned was also out on bail.

MDEA Commander Peter Arno said that agents located nearly 13 grams of heroin with a street value of $5,000, both inside the house and in Colon’s car, which was parked in the driveway. Arno said drug agents suspect Colon brought the heroin to Presque Isle from out of state.  He said the agency has been seeing  a growing trend of out-of-state drug dealers using Maine homes as a base of operation.

Colon was charged with Class A Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin) and Violations of Conditions of Release. Ramus was charged with Class C Possession of Schedule W Drugs (Heroin) and a probation violation. Both Colon and Ramus were transported to the Aroostook County Jail.

Maine probation officers assisted MDEA during this investigation, which is continuing and more arrests are possible.

On April 23rd, $20,000 worth of heroin was seized from a Fort Fairfield house and a Miami man was arrested.
