Man and Daughter Arrested in Perham Theft

The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday charged a Caribou man and his daughter in connection with the theft of property in Perham.

Just before 1:00 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a theft in progress on the Ericson Road in Perham. A man who was keeping an eye on his neighbor’s home had confronted a man and woman who appeared to be stealing a number of items from the property. The neighbor tried to block the pair’s escape, but they were able to get past him in a pickup truck and flee the scene.

Sheriff Darrell Crandall said the man followed the two suspects and provided location updates to public safety dispatchers. Within ten minutes, Deputy Sheriff Chad Foley intercepted the pickup on the Pratt Road in Perham and was able to get the vehicle stopped.

The man, identified as 56-year-old Jonathan “Tim” Monahan of Caribou complied with commands from the Deputy, but his daughter, 33-year-old Ashley Monahan actively resisted arrest, Crandall said.

Both were taken into custody. Mr. Monahan is currently on probation for a previous theft offense. The unregistered Chevrolet pickup the suspects were driving was seized and towed to Caribou where Deputies did an inventory of the stolen property. The back of the truck was full of items stolen including auto parts and scrap metal, Crandall said.

Both suspects were taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.

Jonathan Monahan is charged with theft, criminal trespass and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Ashley Monahan is charged with theft, criminal trespass and failure to submit to arrest. Bail has not yet been set.
