Troop F of the Maine State Police responded to 118 calls for service this past week in and around Aroostook County. Here is a sampling from the Troop’s weekly report:

Incident Type: CRIMINAL TRAFFIC Date: 5/08/2018 Town: SAINT AGATHA Trooper: TR. DESROSIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Desrosier was conducting traffic enforcement in Saint Agatha when he observed a Maine registered vehicle not displaying an inspection certificate. Tr. Desrosier stopped the vehicle and during the stop discovered the female driver had an expired Maine driver’s license expiring in 2003. When asked about the license the woman said she was trying to take care of it but moved to Tennessee and did not return to Maine until 2014. Tr. Desrosier issued the woman a traffic summons for failing to display a valid inspection certificate and a criminal summons for driving with an expired driver’s license over 90 days.

Incident Type: OUI Date: 5/11/2018 Town: SAINT AGATHA Trooper: TR. DESROSIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Desrosier was conducting traffic enforcement in Saint Agatha when he observed a vehicle using illegal auxiliary lighting on a vehicle. Tr. Desrosier stopped the vehicle and during the stop suspected the male driver was impaired. After conducting Field Sobriety Testing the man was arrested for OUI and transported for an Intoxilyzer examination

Incident Type: WEAPON COMPLAINT Date: 5/12/2018 Town: AMITY Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint responded to a report of a man firing off a cannon in Amity. The complainant stated her neighbor has discharged a cannon several times and was concerned. Cpl. Quint went to the residence and spoke with the owner. He has a small, hand-made “mortar.” The man said he uses black powder in the device, packs it with paper, and ignites the fuse for noise only to show his friends. He stated he does not launch a projectile from the device. The man was very cooperative. The complainant was updated regarding the device and was all set with the information provided.

Incident Type: PROBATION VIOLATION/RESISTING ARREST Date: 5/07/2018 Town: MARS HILL Trooper: TR. PESCITELLI Brief Synopsis: Tr Pescitelli responded to a runaway complaint in Mars Hill. Tr Pescitelli located the juvenile walking along with several other males. As Tr Pescitelli investigated the complaint, he found that a 33-year-old male was on probation and had been drinking. Tr Pescitelli attempted to arrest the male for the violation and the male resisted arrest, leading to several minutes of struggle in the road. Tr Stoutamyer arrived and they got the male under control and Tr Pescitelli transported him to ACJ with charges of probation violation and resisting arrest.

Incident Type: CRIMINAL MISCHIEF Date: 5/11/2018 Town: FRENCHVILLE Trooper: TR. CURTIN Brief Synopsis: Tr Curtin responded to a Frenchville residence when a man reported his driver window had been broken overnight. Despite other vehicles being at the location, only one window was damaged. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Incident Type: WARRANT Date: 5/10/2018 Town: SHERMAN Trooper: TR. SAUCIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Saucier arrested a Sherman woman on a warrant for failing to appear on a Negotiating a Worthless Instrument charge. It appeared the woman had been living out of state for some time and had returned to the area. She was arrested without incident.

Incident Type: SPEAKING ENGAGEMENT Date: 5/11/2018 Town: PRESQUE ISLE  Brief Synopsis: Troopers from Troop F once again helped out at the Aroostook Special Olympics Spring Games held in Presque Isle. Approximately 305 athletes were registered for the Games. Although one of the coldest and windiest days seen for the Games, participation was great and a great time was had by all that attended. Tr. Stoutamyer ran the Torch in, signifying the start of the Games and Troopers helped out with the standing long jump event, as we have for the past 27 years ( and counting). Helping out at the Games were Lt. Harris, Sgt. Haines, Sgt. Clark, Cpl. Michaud, Tr. Duff, Tr. Kilcollins, Tr. Curtin, Tr. Flynn, Tr. Stetson and Tr. Stoutamyer.
