Here is the latest report from Troop F of the Maine State Police outlining activity this past week in and around Aroostook County.

Troop F responded to 109 calls for service in the course of the week. Troopers also made 135 vehicle stops, issued 28 traffic summons, 19 criminal summons, 10 operating suspended, 1 OUI arrest and 141 warnings.

Incident Type: CRIMINAL SPEED Date: 3/27/2018 Town: EASTON Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint was conducting traffic enforcement in Easton and observed a tractor trailer unit speeding. Cpl. Quint stopped the vehicle and later discovered the male driver had a suspended driver’s license in Florida. The man stated he did not know it was suspended but suspected it was the result of a ticket he received elsewhere. The man was issued a criminal summons for criminal speeding (61 mph in a posted 30 mph zone) and a criminal summons for operating without a driver’s license. The man arranged to park the truck until he could have his license reinstated.

Incident Type: WARRANT ARREST Date: 3/28/2018 Town: FORT FAIRFIELD Trooper: TR. PESCITELLI Brief Synopsis: Tr Pescitelli was patrolling in Fort Fairfield and noticed a vehicle that he was familiar with because he has summonsed the owner for OAS in the past. Tr Pescitelli noticed that the 29-year-old male owner was in the vehicle and Tr Pescitelli was aware that the male had an active warrant for his arrest. Tr Pescitelli arrested the male on the warrant and transported him to ACJ.

Incident Type: OAS Date: 3/28/2018 Town: LUDLOW Trooper: TR. SYLVIA Brief Synopsis: Tr. Sylvia arrested a Van Buren man after stopping him for speeding. The man had been driving 95 in a 75 MPH Zone on I-95. Once the man was pulled over, Tr. Sylvia learned that his right to operate was under suspension and that he was on bail with one of the conditions being not to operate a motor vehicle. The man also had a warrant for Theft. The man was arrested and charged with VCR, OAS, and speeding. The passenger had a valid license and was allowed to drive the vehicle home.

Incident Type: OAS/ WARRANT ARREST Date: 3/28/2018 Town: HODGDON Trooper: TR. BELL Brief Synopsis:  Tr Bell was parked in Hodgdon and he saw a pickup pass by him with a male operator. Tr Bell ran the registration plate and found the vehicle registration had expired in September of last year. Tr Bell pulled the vehicle over and found that the 31-year-old operator had a suspended driver’s license and had an active arrest warrant. Tr Bell took the male in custody and transported him to ACJ.

Incident Type: TRAFFIC OFFENSE Date: 3/28/2018 Town: MARS HILL Trooper: SGT. HAINES Brief Synopsis: Sgt. Haines pulled over a Caribou man after he watched the man texting and driving. Once the operator pulled over, Sgt. Haines discovered that the license plates on the vehicle belonged to a different vehicle. The subject was cited for Improper Plates and Texting While Driving.

Incident Type: OAS Date: 3/29/2018 Town: HOULTON Trooper: TR. BELL Brief Synopsis: Tr Bell was patrolling in Houlton and saw a vehicle who he knew the operator to be suspended. Tr Bell followed the vehicle into a store and confirmed the 39-year-old male was operating the truck. Tr Bell summonsed him for an OAS infraction for failing to pay fines, and gave the male a ride to a new job he had so that he wouldn’t be late for work. The male was very appreciative.

Incident Type: OAS Date: 3/29/2018 Town: LINNEUS Trooper: TR. BELL Brief Synopsis: Tr Bell was patrolling in Linneus and he observed a vehicle pass by him and he knew the 27-year-old operator to be suspended. Tr Bell stopped the vehicle and summonsed the male for OAS. The male found a licensed driver to drive his vehicle.

Incident Type: OAS Date: 3/29/2018 Town: LITTLETON Trooper: TR. BELL Brief Synopsis: Tr Bell was patrolling in Littleton and met a vehicle and identified the operator as a male he was familiar with and who he knew to be suspended. Tr Bell followed the vehicle to a residence and summonsed the 40-year-old operator for OAS. The male waited for a licensed driver to arrive to drive his vehicle.

Incident Type: OAS Date: 3/30/2018 Town: EASTON Trooper: SGT. CLARK Brief Synopsis: Sgt. Clark stopped a vehicle in Easton suspecting the driver was texting and driving. After the woman was stopped she explained she uses her phone to listen to music. During the stop, it was discovered the woman has a suspended driver’s license. She was issued a criminal summons for the violation and given a warning for distracted driving.

Incident Type: OUI Date: 3/31/2018 Town: LITTLETON Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint was conducting traffic enforcement in Littleton. After following a vehicle for a distance, he stopped a pickup for traffic infractions. During the stop, it was suspected the male driver was intoxicated. Field Sobriety Testing was conducted subsequently resulting in the man’s arrest for OUI.

Incident Type: CRIMINAL SPEED Date: 3/31/2018 Town: MAPLETON Trooper: TR. KILCOLLINS Brief Synopsis: Tr. Kilcollins was conducting traffic enforcement in Mapleton and observed a vehicle criminally speeding. After stopping the vehicle, the female driver stated she was not aware of her excessive speeding. Tr. Kilcollins issued the woman a criminal summons for Exceeding the Posted Speed Limit by 30 mph or more (76 mph in a posted 45 mph zone).

Incident Type: VIOLATION OF BAIL Date: 3/31/2018 Town: MONTICELLO Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint was conducting traffic enforcement in Monticello and observed a defective vehicle. After stopping the vehicle, it was found that the male driver and one male passenger had conditions of release and were prohibited from using/possessing liquor. Cpl. Quint observed beer and twisted tea in the vehicle and the driver was attempting to conceal an open beer. Field Sobriety Testing determined the driver was not impaired. The driver and the passenger were issued criminal summonses for violating their conditions of release. The driver was also summonsed for having an open container of liquor.

Incident Type: DRUGS Date: 3/31/2018 Town: SHERMAN Trooper: TR. DUFF Brief Synopsis: Tr. Duff was in Sherman to get gas for his cruiser and observed a man acting suspicious near the trash cans. Upon further investigation Tr. Duff discovered the man was discarding needles. Further investigation revealed the passenger was in possession of heroin and other prescription medicines that she was not prescribed. The woman was issued two criminal summons and was released.

Incident Type: WARRANT Date: 3/31/2018 Town: BLAINE Trooper: CPL. MICHAUD Brief Synopsis: During an investigation, Cpl. Michaud learned that one of the complainants had a warrant for her arrest for failure to appear for a fine hearing. She was arrested and transported to the Presque Isle Police Department where she posted bail and was released.

Incident Type: CRASH Date: 3/31/2018 Town: LITTLETON Trooper: TR. CASAVANT Brief Synopsis: Tr. Casavant and Sgt. Haines responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 1 in Littleton. Through the subsequent investigation, the following information was learned about the crash. The operator and owner of the vehicle David Hite was traveling North on Route 1 in Littleton in his 2004 Ford van. Hite reported he fell asleep and drove off the roadway striking a tree. There were four passengers in the van and all five occupants reportedly were wearing their seatbelts and suffered non-life threatening injuries. The other passengers are 27-year-old Ashley Dahlgren, 41-year-old Mark Farr both of Caribou, 27-year-old Tiffany Weems of Skowhegan and 36-year-old Kristy Wasson of Easton. One person was trapped and extricated by the jaws of life by Houlton Fire. Wasson and Weems were transported to Houlton Regional for treatment.

Troop F of the Maine State Police is responsible for Aroostook County and the extreme northern sections of Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties.
