Presque Isle residents looking to get out of town for the weekend may want to consider a short road trip down south where they can join in the festivities at the nation’s oldest fair – The Skowhegan State Fair.

The Skowhegan State Fair kicks off its 195th year Thursday at the Skowhegan State Fairgrounds, which is a modest three and a half drive (211 miles) from our home base here in Presque Isle. This historical event features 10 days of animal exhibits and shows, demolition derbies, tractor pulls, live bands, comedy and of course, food booths.
