Maine Resident Receives High Honor From U.S. Army

28 year old Staff Sergeant Ryan McCarthy, of Belgrade Lakes, has been named the U. S. Army's Non-Commissioned Officer of The Year.

According to WCSH TV, he took part in the Army's Best Warrior competition in October.  Staff Sergeant McCarthy, along with 10 other finalists, competed in the six day competition.  In addition to the noncommissioned officer award, he was given the Meritorious Service Medal for his win.

McCarthy's military career began in 2008 and he has served in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Additionally, he was recently stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri as an instructor.
