It seems like since Earth Day's founding in 1970, people have been trying to figure new ways to recycle their paper and plastic or 'go green', as they say.

Our friends at WalletHub.com did an analysis in all 50 states to find out which ones were the most 'environmentally-friendly.' Maine ranked in the top 6 states in the Union as one of the greenest states.

They ranked the states on 20 different measures to include, but not limited to, what the states eco-friendly policies are, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified buildings per capita, climate change contributions, and renewable resources.

Here are the top 6 states in America who are considered the 'greenest' states and how they scored based on Wallethub.com's matrix.
